Not enough optical sockets ?
I only had one on my amplifier so this little device easily enabled me to connect two devices with this type of connection. Bigger than I thought it would be at least it does not need yet another power supply and associated cable to add to the rats nest of wires that now surround my AV equipment. Very easy to use, although of course it is manual - an auto-sensing device would be great that would automatically switch to the source currently in use. But overall, an affordable solution until the day when manufacturers do far far better at standardising the plethora of connectivity options out there (HDMI, toslink, SPDIF, phono etc etc.).

Nice idea but poorly implemented
A substantial chunk for the money but too inaccurately machined for keeping holes centred. So did not get as far as even using it after a happy hour trying, and failing, to correct its alignment.
