Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man (DVD) Marc Porel, Ray Lovelock, Adolfo Celi

Standard for the Genre, but Highly Enjoyable
This was one of about three Italian crime/police action I ever saw on VHS , which was 2nd hand and had very a washed out picture and bad audio. So this DVD release is very welcome , with clean picture quality and good audio in Italian/English with optional English subtitles. Nothing out of the ordinary but a decent audio/visual presentation. Disappointed with the lack of any interviews with the any cast / crew or director , though I can see the issue with Marc Porel and Adolfo Celi both sadly passing away in the 1980’s and Ray Lovelock in 2017, but this particular DVD release was 2015 , so why no interview with Ruggero Deodato the director? He is still around , but enough of my complaints. I understand that their could be a multitude of reasons for no special features. Even a restoration / preservation mini documentary of this period of Italian action films would have been great...... but alas, no. Now the narrative the film presents has be seen many times in various films of the genre with some adjustments made to the pacing & storytelling , characters, scenarios , events etc... but the basic premise of street level criminals being involved with very violent muggings ( in this case , on motorbikes, like other films of the Genre) and bank robberies and general ultra-violent chaos and the seemingly helpless citizens not being helped at all by corrupt government officials and the high up members of the police, but relying on maverick cops who see the corruption and double crossing by their colleagues in law enforcement ( recommend viewing “Special Cop in Action” 1976, starring Maurizio Merli) or the public taking maters in to their own hands “Death Wish” 1974 Charles Bronson, fashion and becoming vigilante ( recommend viewing “Street Law” 1974 , starring Franco Nero). The two leading characters of “Live like a cop die like a man” are Antonio and Alfredo , two undercover cops , in the special operations force, who use any means necessary to get their man. Their actions are nearly identical to the villains , and little seems to separate the cops from the criminals in the use of violence. Fighting fire with fire seems to be our two Cops method who are hot on the trail of Pasquini a mobster. There is no real reason to go deep into the plot , what their is of it , as really any story elements are just used as Segways to connect the action sequences. Recommend for pure entertainment right from the opening chase on motorbikes including the violent mugging of a lady being dragged behind a motorcycle & a guide dog being run over! Not for the faint hearted , very violent, even though over the top and some what silly , still you have been warned. For the relatively low price that this DVD can be purchased for on EBay I can recommend it to new and old fans of Eurocrime films. I have a special place for this in my heart , as mentioned at the beginning , one of the films that started my appreciation for the Genre . I hope that my rambling review can be of help to someone, even though it is not particularly focused on one certain element of the film. I just tried to keep it to a broad look at most of the elements of this DVD release of the film. More in-depth reviews of the film can easily be found on the internet, if you require further information. Thank you.

Vampire Hunter D
I have been after this particular DVD version of this Anime classic because of the excellent audio commentary by Jonathan Clements who is very informative. The film it’s self is very entertaining, and is well paced. If you are a fan of horror/supernatural Anime this film has plenty to offer.
IRON CHAIN ASSASSIN DVD NEW

Solid production values & well choreographed fight scenes help lift this Shaw Brothers Studios 1980 production above the pleather of generic Kung Fu films on offer from the same period . Ti Lung preforms strongly good use of weapons in the form of the iron Chain & shows good kicking ability, aided efficiently by Tony Liu Yung when the team up against Jason Pai Pao in the finale. Highly enjoyable viewing for veterans of Kung Fu films and those new to the genre. As a side note , Tony Liu Yung looks a lot stronger here, in terms of his on screen fighting , I never thought he really looked that good in SOME but not all of the films he did at Golden Harvest or Independent studio productions for that matter. He should be instantly familiar to even casual fans of the genre playing the character of the son of Han Ying Chieh (the titular villain of “The Big Boss” known in the USA as “Fists of Fury”)who gets killed by Bruce Lee in the brutal ice factory fight. But I digress, a good addition to any ones DVD collection.
