Cometic cylinder head gaskets - expensive but the best

Cometic cylinder head gaskets are probably the best you can buy for race engine applications. But, they are not low cost. 3 or 5 layers of stainless steel with embossed outer layers give excellent sealing at modest clamping pressures without the need for subsequent re-torqueing. However you do need very flat surfaces and very good surface finishes for them to work effectively. Also, on Aluminium alloy heads or blocks (or both), Cometic gaskets can leave indented marks which may need re-surfacing to recover perfect sealing surfaces. I have used Cometic CH gaskets for the past 4 rebuilds of my race engine over a 15 year period and never seen a blow or leak.
