A very great book.
One of the very great books. Endless fascination.

Wonderful.
Mitsuko, Barenboim, Brendel or Perahia? Any, or preferably all. Each is a mighty pianist, a sensitive and refined musician, and the bar is so high that it's almost impossible to make a first choice. Personal preference must decide, and I would place Mitsuko and Murray Perahia joint first. Mitsuko is marginally better recorded.

An astonishingly good translation
This is possibly the finest translation of anything I have ever encountered. Lee remains very close to the Latin, so it's easy for students to follow, but he captures perfectly the tone of these exquisite poems, so often dismissed by those who have never read them. The fate of the dispossessed and troubled love are themes as relevant today as ever.
