Gold Fever!

One of the films where Bogey was not a good guy as down on their luck friends go in with a prospector and strike it rich but getting the gold is just the beginning as the lure of it works on their minds.

You can't always trust what you see.

Deeper and darker than the first instalment but still with plenty of laughs, mostly at Bajie's expense. An evolving Wukong and less callow Xuanzang must learn to trust each other if they are to survive demonic illusions. Great effects and soundtrack.

Pigsy sings the blues

These 4 movies were based on Chinese opera and so the acting is a bit theatrical at times and there are numerous songs scattered throughout explaining the dilemmas characters face. While not the big budget CGI tour de force of recent JTTW movies they have authenticity and were popular in the west in their day and a cult following now. The only criticism is the subtitles which were a bit haphazard but good enough to get the gist. The was a re-purchase for me (when will I learn not to lend my dvds?) I like it so much I bought it twice.
