Quality Drama
1 of 1 found this helpful “They don’t make ‘em like that any more” - a cliche, but in this case true. A great retelling of the story of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, its consequences and characters, with some great performances, particularly from Ben Kingsley as Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The writing is excellent, intelligent and engages you fully in this rarified mid-Nineteenth Century world where a lot of notions of what Art is and how artists live were formed hold true today.
I saw this drama as a teenager when it was first aired in 1974/5 and it introduced me to the world of the Pre-Raphaelites. I thought it would have dated, which it had, but only slightly and not enough to dull the drama in any way. An in-depth and consequential portrayal and worth watching in its own right, but particularly if this world and its unfolding story finds you as captivated as this humble reviewer.
