Excellent quality reissue vinyl
For the money, look no further. This reissue is on the STRAIGHT label which was a Warner Bros product. The sound quality is excellent and can be compared favorably to the original analog master tapes. I found no surface noise on my copy and the disc was flat with no warping evident. The original recording did not have much bass (except in a few songs) but some of the highs were shrill. I did not hear any upper level distortion is this issue and much of the sound lies in midrange frequency. I've read the original recording sounds much like this one and the remastering on some reissues actually distort the sound by tweaking the bass and treble levels. I much prefer to hear the recording as originally intended. I find this recording to be very well balanced. The heavyweight black vinyl assures a good pressing. The artwork is faithfully reproduced and looks great. Unfortunately, no reissue includes the lyric/art insert that was with the original album, although it is available with the CD, albeit a smaller version. This LP is a great option if you have an original pressing that you want to preserve. If you intend to buy an original pressing, be prepared to shell out big bucks. This reissue is faithful to the original for a fraction of the price and offers countless delights from the cool STRAIGHT label, beautifully reproduced and accurate artwork, and of course the amazing unequalled sounds of TROUT MASK REPLICA and CAPTAIN BEEFHEART and his MAGIC BAND!
