Nikon D50 Body Only - Avoid 18-55mm!
7 of 7 found this helpful Bought as a gap-filler until I could afford a D200. Wish I'd kept it as a back-up body, because it is SUPERB! My wife still has hers, though, so if needs must...
But then I haven't been let down by my D200 yet!
The 18-55mm lens (that also came with the basic kit) is poor, IMHO: the barrel distortion was HIGHLY evident when photographing the Acropolis in Athens, and I had to borrow the wife's 18-70mm lens to get the shots I wanted! Guess what? My next purchase was an 18-70!
Buy it; you WON'T regret it!

A BRILLIANT CHARGER...
OK, so others have done it before...but chiefly cheap-and-cheerful Chinese products that have dubious safety credentials and poor quality control. This, however, is in a different league altogether: a well-made, sturdy and seemingly durable item that I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending. If I needed two, I'd be back for a second in a flash!

Panasonic DMR-EX75 (160 GB) DVD/HDD Recorder
12 of 12 found this helpful Panasonic make some of the best DVD Recorders around and this model is absolutely no exception. I started out with a DMR-E55, upgraded to a DMR-ES10, then DMR-ES15 and now have this model. Each upgrade has seen an improvement in style and function. At under £130 second hand (and lots of people are selling them because they've upgraded to Sky+!), these are a bargain!
The beauty of the Pannies HAS to be the ability to time-slip using DVD-RAM: watch a programme you have already started to record while the programme finishes running on TV! DVD-RAM use also means that you can record a programme while playing back something previously recorded on disk. Don't listen to whingers that say DVD-RAM is expensive: less that a pound each on eBay (don't know if Costco still sell them?) and they can be re-used up to 100,000 times (no, I haven't reached that number yet, but that is Panny's claim)!
Picture quality is superb and you can choose to record onto either the HDD or DVD (+R, -R, +RW, -RW and RAM). By using the excellent editing functions (simple, intuitive and extensive), you can cut out all the intros and adverts from your recording on either the HDD or DVD-RAM. You can also use the Copy function (it even has a fast copy mode!) to burn your programme from the HDD onto your chosen permanent format; 'finalise' the disk and it's a permanent disk, playable on ANY DVD player, freeing up your HDD for more recordings!
I STRONGLY recommend these recorders to ANYONE that wants a good quality unit at a sensible price.
