I purchased it because I wanted a DVD player with high quality CD and SACD playing ability that would look good with my Sherwood Newcastle pre-pro which is quite a bit older, but which I still use for a variety of reasons. The DVD player has the same finish so both components look great together. I find the sound quality excellent which was my main consideration but also the quality of the DVD player to be impressive. The unit was new as advertised. No complaints.
