Brilliant for transferring old Video 8 and Hi8 films to Computer
I purchased one of these on eBay to help in transfer of Hi8 (1990's) movies to computer. The great thing about some Digital 8 cameras is that they will play Hi8 tapes. Not only will this model play Hi8 but will convert to digital DV stream allowing the video to be captured via Firewire directly to computer. There is no need for a separate video capture card as the analog/digital conversion is all don on board the camera. The results are pretty good too. Not all Digital 8 cameras do this but the higher end Sony cameras, like this one, do. I converted 25 Hi8 tapes in this way without issue.

Great for the money
For a few pounds more this is way better quality than the really cheap ones on eBay. Spend the extra. This is not a professional jig and thought is needed if using closely spaced dowels if making a frame for a example - don’t fix/glue dowels on first piece until holes on second piece are drilled - same advice for any jig of this type. Professional jigs allow multiple holes to be set up etc. But they cost loads.

Pretty good at price
I replaced a Ryobi stud finder with this as I found the number of false readings with the Ryobi too annoying. The Zircom seems better in this regard albeit not perfect. The display is more intuitive and I have found after a couple of uses that it does identify studs with greater accuracy than my old one. Care is still needed and best to confirm located studs using a measure etc. To eliminate false positives. So far so good.
