Compelling look at Britain today

This book is part of a series (Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer) I would recommend reading them in order - which I didn't! Despite that I was hooked. The writing is unsual and thought-provoking, the characters compelling. The story (stories?) are interlinked and not at all obvious. The setting is modern Britain and I really enjoyed Ali Smith's take on this.

The Bean Trees

Gripping!

Barbara Kingsolver is one of my favourite authors! Bean Trees is a wonderful read. The characters are well drawn and completely pull you into their lives. As the book progresses it becomes a real nail-biter!
