Fish Tank Cabinet Aquarium LED Light Tropical Marine Large Black 4ft 300 Litre
09 Mar, 2017
Poor Cabinet, Bad designed tank, faulty heater that killed a fish. IMPORTANT you read below.
Firstly, the sellers of this item were very good with their communication but were not prepared to take responsibility for various MAJOR faults with this tank. ** Tank ** Tank size is good, but it's a lot taller and more shallow from from to back that I had expected. It would have been better to be shorter at the top and deeper from back to front. The height of this tank causes an issue getting anything in or out. Now that problem is exacerbated by the fact that when you open the lid, there is a giant beam of permantly affixed glass that sits on top of the tank even with the lid off. There is no room to get a net, ornament and barely any fish food. This means you have to use the tiny openings at the side and gives you no access to the middle of the tank to gravel vac etc. Such a poor design. ** Cabinet ** In the picture you will see a seemingly convenient placed hole that is advertised for wires. Wire will fit through, a plug will not, they confirmed this when I called them to discuss the issue. The hole is pointless at its current size. I was forced to buy an external canister filter for the tank (reason below) I placed the canister in the cabinet but had to saw a gap under the door to get the wire out, otherwise the door has to stay permanently open. I now have a wire sticking out the front of the cabinet and this is the best case scenario. ** Filter ** Advertised as having filter media included. This is actually just a basic sponge drip system. Absolutely not good enough for a tank this size. Even the cheapest of canister filters will have bio balls, ceramic rings, multiple layers of different foam and active carbon. This "filter" is literally just a single line of foam. If you have a fish tank this big, it is likely you will eventually have fish big enough for it. The foam drip simply will not be enough. They DO know this, which is why you will notice a distinct lack of pictures of the filter media. Now once I realized this, I had to go and buy an external canister filter, I figured I would run both filters at once. HOWEVER you can't fit any kind of hose, outlet or filter type onto the back of the tank with the giant plastic built in "filter" that this comes with. THANKFULLY you can remove it. It would have been better to sell the tank without it and knock of £20/30. ** Heater ** Comes with a 300w unbranded white boxed heater with no instructions at all. This is not my first tank and I do know how to use them but many others might make the mistake of not fully submerging the heater or turning it on when not in water. I set the temp to 25 degrees but it never managed to heat the tank passed 23. One evening, I heard an audible pop. Then I noticed a little danio fish floating lifelessly through the tank. I had just done a small water change that brought the temp down a little bit so the heater came on. All the other fish were panting like crazy and hiding on the bottom of the tank, something I had never seen them do before. Most of them recovered, but the little fish nearest the heater was dead. I removed the heater, threw it away and bought an EHEM 300 W heater instead. Fantastic, and heats the tank to 25 degrees in no time. Another unnecessary expenditure however. I did my best to contact the sellers to resolve the issues, they offered a 10% refund due to the cabinet issue but claimed the filter was fine. They must have been laughing because they had just released a 10% sale on all items due to their 10 year anniversary (which I just missed). When I mentioned the heater to them, they never responded before admitting there was no instructions. This little MONSTER company will sink and take their poorly made cheap products with them. For a tank this big, don't try and save money. Get a better branded one that has far more reviews from EXPERIENCED hobbyists rather than the current reviews "Yes my fish swim it good tank"
