Yummy bean recipes, great if you want to cut down on meat.
I love this book. I had already discovered Bold Beans beans and they are absolutely delicious, so I was very excited to learn there was a book which just focused on bean recipes! I'm not a vegetarian but am trying to move towards eating less meat, and beans offer a very tasty and filling alternative that can hit that 'meat' spot. I've only just started to map out which recipes to start with but I'm tempted by many, especially the simpler ones and those that have cheese in them! I'll be buying copies for friends for Xmas.

Fascinating discussion of 'impossible loves'.
Very much enjoying this exploration of 'impossible love.' It's always intrigued me how and why we fall in love, and why we sometimes get such intense feelings for someone who is out of reach, or where the love itself would potentially be destructive. This book explores these ideas.

Thought-provoking and beautiful stories which explore relationships, self, loss and love.
Banana Yoshimoto is such a beautiful writer. I've only recently come across her and have really connected to her work. She explores such familiar themes of heart ache, love, loss, self-discovery but does it in such a sensitive and beautiful way - often bringing in a magical or supernatural element which I absolutely love. The stories in this collection are very compelling and stay in the mind, such as the man who is contemplating leaving his wife but meets a mysterious stranger on a train who makes him think otherwise and the title story of the book, Lizard, about a strong relationship between a man and a woman. I will certainly be re-reading these over and over again.
