About

Jeff Astle – or, to Albion fans, simply ‘The King’. A footballing icon who scored 174 goals for the Baggies.

Jeff made his mark scoring in every round of the 1968 FA Cup, crucially scoring the only goal in the final.

Astle died aged just 59, not knowing that he was once a footballer. Four years’ earlier, he’d been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

In May 2014, Astle was the first British professional footballer confirmed to have died of CTE – a degenerative brain disease caused by multiple concussions.
In his case, repeated trauma from heading footballs.

A year later, his family launched the Jeff Astle Foundation to help tackle brain injury in sport, supporting affected players and their families, and educating younger generations.

The ‘Make an Impact’ campaign is a series of unique ball-impression paintings created by celebrated footballers.
Fans will have the opportunity to buy these, with profits going to the Jeff Astle Foundation.
