Use FDgard with caution!
1 of 3 found this helpful The product contains menthol. One mechanism of action of FDgard through its menthol component is that menthol binds to the kappa-opioid receptors in the brain. These receptors have to do with consciousness---hence, muscle relaxation. When I took the recommended dose----2 in AM, 2 in PM---I suffered scary consquences when I woke during the night. I felt off balance, my throat felt odd, I had wet the bed (!), and I felt like I had been drugged. When I researched the menthol component (WebMD, etc,) I discovered why the menthol had this effect. I reduced the dose to 1 per night; over a few weeks my GERD worsened (likely due to the muscle-relaxation of the FDgard's menthol). Stopped the FDgard; GERD symptoms 100% relieved. Use this with caution. In addition, it did little to improve my symptoms; the only advantage was no (albeit rare) stomach cramping and it helped me sleep soundly through the night due to the menthol binding to my brain's kappa-opioid receptors. FDgard should have side-effect warnings included! (Note: I am a molecular biologist with decades of biomedical research experience.)
