Geepas Food Steamer 12L Electric 3 Tier Cooker Vegetable Fish Stainless Steel
    25 Nov, 2020
On the whole, a great steamer which does the job!
Firstly, the postives - the baskets appear to be made from a durable material. A previous steamer had the hard see-through plastic which over time became brittle and cracked. The plastic on this steamer appears to be slightly more flexible which means that it will hopefully be more durable. A big advantage over other steamers on the market is that the base of each basket can be removed, so that larger items can be steamed. Now there's no barrier to making a huge steamed sponge pudding! Overall, the steamer looks good, fits together nicely and most importantly, cooks food nicely. There is really just one niggle with this, and that is with the tray that collects the water dripping down from the baskets. When you're steaming for a short time, say cooking vegetables, it is fine but if you were steaming something for a long time (say, Christmas pudding) then I believe that the tray will need to be periodically emptied. The trouble is it will be hot and there is no easy way of removing it. Although we've not had to do it yet, the only way I can see of doing this is to remove the baskets, tip all the water out (carefully as it will be hot) then refilling with water before resuming steaming. Given that the majority of steaming will be for a shorter time, it's unlikely to be a common issue, so it is a minor detraction from an otherwise great steamer. As for what could be improved, it would be useful if there was a basic guide to getting the best from the steamer, in the form of recommended steaming times for commonly steamed foods.
