Very poor sound quality

I needed to move my speakers to a new location. I have a good system, and thought I would try this. When I played it I first thought I had damaged my turntable stylus as the sound quality was so bad. Complete loss of clarity. Bought some Cambridge symphony 300 cable and the quality is back. If you are not fussy it's a bargain I suppose.
