Pink Floyd - Relics [2016 digipak] NEW CD
19 May, 2021
Early Floyd: If you don't know where to begin....
There's not much to say about RELICS that hasn't been said by others. Its content has been superseded by THE EARLY YEARS and ECHOES, but for an "Early Floyd Primer", you really can't go wrong. I went out of my way to get this digipak with Nick Mason's original artwork, even though I already had the mid-90s CD version with the "real life model" of Nick's Object. (Which is damned impressive and I would love to see the real thing in person someday, sitting in the foyer of his office in England...) But for sheer nostalgia and "street cred", I had to have this one as well. (Also I'm a completist/hoarder.) The sound is excellent, the booklet is cool (and still has pictures of the 3D object), and though the track listing is erratic, it is, like SMASH HITS and LOUDER THAN BOMBS, by accident or deisgn, a perfectly delightful snapshot of the earliest era of the band. Complete? By no means. Essential? Absolutely. But don't stop here....
