I got this book for a German account of the fighting during the opening days of The Battle of the Bulge. I have read many American accounts of the fighting on the "Northern Shoulder" and wanted to see if German accounts were similar, and indeed they are. A good book written from the division commanders memories. There are some accounts from other surviving lower ranked SS men as well,. I gave it 4 stars because I was hoping that there would be more first hand accounts from the men who were locked in combat with american GI's, especially the fighting around the "Twin Villages" and "Lausdel Crossroads" as my Grandpa was 2id, 9th regiment and fought the 12th SS in those places, and those were the most haunting memories of the ETO for him. A solid book that reads well.
