New Hot KOKKO FDS2 Mini Distortion Pedal Portable Guitar Effect Pedal Z0K6
    14 Oct, 2017
Hard To Beat for the $$
Great little pedal for the money. I bought this on a whim as I was bored and curious. I wasn't expecting boutique quality for $17 however this little pedal has a fun personality and some endearing quirks. The LED light seems to react to incoming signal which makes me wonder if the circuit is using the LED for clipping purposes like several other distortion pedals (e.g. Keeley Stahlhammer, Fulltone Plimsoul, etc). Also there is a slight change in character when you max out the Gain knob which I find interesting which only occurs between 4:00-5:00 on the dial. This pedal is fun for pushing a slightly dirty tube amp and it seems most useful in that capacity. There is a little bit of self-noise with this pedal but nothing over-the-top or excessive. Again, I bought mine new for $17 so it has easily exceeded my expectations for the money.

    Monoprice 602650 Microphone Isolation Shield
    28 Feb, 2018
    Really Awesome Microphone Shield
I love this microphone shield so much that I bought a second one for recording two vocalists at once. This shield is very solid and overbuilt and all of the parts are very stout and sturdy. Be advised that the weight of this shield does require either a sturdy flat tabletop surface or else a pretty heavy mic stand to support it. I actually prefer to mount these to PA speaker stands and that seems to work better than any of my tripod mic stands and yet this doesn't require any more space in my studio. Best advice would be to buy a pair of decent PA speaker stands for this shield just to be safe. Totally worth it though. The overall vibe and appearance of this microphone shield is very professional and impressive without any flashy logos or gaudy hardware. It's all-black with a matte finish and everything exudes "impressive". Ideally I'd like to pick up a few more of these shields to use in full-band recording situations as I could see these being very effective in front of combo amps, kick drums, or anywhere else where a very direct sound source needs to be tamed an isolated from other direct sound sources. Also this shield does not seem to make vocals sound boxy or unduly constricted. That is a major plus as a lot of isolation shields have this tendency due to hard (or too thin) foam being used. The foam in this Monoprice shield is slightly softer and more porous than what I've seen in other mic shields but this is actually better in my opinion as it sounds more acoustically dead and less reflective. The foam that is used here is definitely suited for this application and it has held up really well so far. For vocals I've been mounting three large diaphragm condenser mics (Neumann TLM102, Blue Dragonfly, and OktavaMod MK219) via a T-bar and then I close in the front two wings of the shield to minimize the amount of open area that the mics are exposed to. This method has worked great for high quality vocal tracks with the ability to mix and match and blend three different sounding mics on the same vocal performances during mixdown. This shield is big enough for all three of these mics to sit side-by-side on their own spider shockmounts and still I can close in the front shield wings without running out of room or getting the mics too close to the foam. I could probably fit in an SM58 in with these three LDC's as well. Very convenient and versatile and definitely a professional level product. I will definitely buy more of these shields as needed. I'm very happy with this product. Money well-spent.
