Welcome to Bertie's Crazy world
1 of 1 found this helpful What's not to love about any Alexander McCall Smith book? Bertie's world is just as funny and interesting as any of his other books. The unfolding story notes how observant and outspoken Bertie is when he notices a disturbing issue related to his baby brother. When he helps a friend get out of trouble we are delighted, but he doesn't always know how to help himself when upsets arise. Don't miss this one.

A fascinating description of the history of Mormonism. past and present.
This is a true story of a man who thought he was clever enough to forge "original" documents from early Morman history, thereby enriching himself and damaging the Mormon church. Also detailed here is a history of the church. The hierarchy and wealth of the Moman church is exposed, and their fear and vulnerability to the exposure of the truth of their origins as well as a desire for political power and wealth.
Anyone like me who is curious about the Mormons and their devotion to their cult will want to add this to their list of "must read" books. It is a long book, but well documented and worth the time it takes to read it.
The forger in the story is very capable in his ability to make his documents pass as legitimate for a long time. When things start falling apart, he becomes desparate and the murders begin.
Not just a murder story, this is a complex exposee' of a growing number of people devoted to a mind-controlling cult and the leaders who are fearful of the truth of their origins. Background information about Joseph Smith and Brigham Young is well-written also. Highly recommended. Read this and read also online stories and comments by ex-mormons.
