New Headphone Guitar Amp With Headphones Duracell Battery Installed Fast Shipper
    29 Mar, 2017
Good, but easily modified to excellent
This is basically a good product but you may find the excessive hiss (broadband white noise) objectionable. I disassembled it after only five minutes of use and created a schematic diagram in order to evaluate the design and see if I could come up with a simple mod to reduce the noise. Here is what I changed knowing that the unit has about 20 dB more gain than anyone would ever need ... 1) remove 330 Ohm gain-boost resistor R13 (11 dB improvement in Signal/Noise ratio) 2) short-out 33K resistor R8 (extends low-end response for bass guitar) 3) change capacitor C15 to .001uF to eliminate unnecessary high-frequency gain peak (original value 100pF) 4) remove 100K resistor R7 to disable the "Tube" distortion feature (further improved S/N by about 6 dB) These changes were supported by computer simulation using PSpice software. There is still plenty of excess gain for even the weakest passive-pickup guitar in my collection. Unless you use the word "dude" at least once in every sentence, you will likely not miss the cheezy distortion feature eliminated in mod #4. I mostly play bass, so mod #2 was a welcome improvement for me. You may find that only performing the easy-to-do mod #1 is sufficient.
LaBella LTF-4A Low Tension Flexible Flats Electric Bass Strings
    13 Apr, 2017
    My favorite strings
Round-wound strings just make too much noise and give my fingers an unpleasant workout. I tried half-round and was surprised that the feel was worse ... like running your fingers across a nail file. Traditional flat-wounds have a lot of extra mass and therefore must run at higher tension so I was a little reluctant to go that route. Then I discovered these low-tension flats and decided to give them a try ... glad I did. I love them. Many will complain about flats not being well suited for slapping style. I solved that problem by getting a second bass with round strings. Why stop there? Do what I did and get yourself a third bass ... a frettless with LaBella Nylon tape-wounds.
