Right book, wrong edition
This is the book if you want to learn how to construct persuasive proposals in response to federal Requests For Proposal. However, a lot has changed in recent decades and you probably ought to spend the additional money to get the most recent edition. I believe that's 6th edition. My copy is 2nd edition, and that's not the fault of the seller. There was full disclosure.

SCHOLARSHIP DONE RIGHT
This is a multi-layered account of an energetic scholar who devoted himself to uncovering truth, and that is not a redundancy. University of Alaska at Fairbanks professor David Hopkins' scholarly accomplishments deserved a book, but I was most impressed by his stubborn integrity within the scientific community - forcing colleagues to address real issues rather than change the subject or rely on ad hominem attacks. Last Giant is an engaging read even for people with no particular appetite for intellectual controversy - there is physical derring-do involved. Especially if you have spent an adventurous season or two in Alaska and recognize some of the place names and UAF buildings, Last Giant will be hard to put down. I bought this book off a rack in a grocery store - it was an unexpected pleasure. I recommend it to smart people. Dumb, entertainment-addicted people may find it a bore.
