About

Hello fellow eBayers!! Welcome to my page. I've discovered over the years that eBay isn't just a hobby, it's a way of life, and I have bought a lot of items that I never even knew I needed until I saw them for sale on eBay...

A passionate and articulate Italian shares his city
When I watched Francesco da Mosto present his beloved Venice on the BBC for our viewing delight, it was love at first sight. Luckily my fiance felt the same way! Venice is a fabulous and magical city, and Francesco is a natural in front of the camera as he shows us some of the city's history, in which his family plays a large part. The programmes left us wanting more, and we have not only rewatched the series several times on DVD, as well as the other excellent programmes that Francesco has gone on to make, but we have also gone back to Venice on numerous occasions since. We are now planning our wedding there, and every guest will be receiving a copy of this DVD before they arrive, in the hope that they will grow to love the city as much as we do. If you enjoy well-researched documentaries (part travel, part history) and a knowledgeable handsome presenter with a gorgeously sexy Italian accent then you really can't go wrong with this DVD. Buy it!

The third star of the film is the city of Venice itself
I bought this DVD because I missed the cinema release and I was curious to know how successfully the filmmakers managed to achieve the scenes shot in Venice, which is a city I love. We were staying in Venice in Feb 2010 at the same time as Angelina and Johnny were there filming. Angelina is glamorous and elegant throughout the movie, always perfectly dressed and poised, with no trace of an American accent, very convincingly European. Johnny Depp's performance is understated yet amazing, he had me convinced to the end. And the third star of the film is Venice, that wonderful impossible city of decaying grandeur that casts a spell on her visitors and leaves them vaguely unsatisfied with anywhere else. This film has taken some breathtaking liberties with the layout of Venice that left me spluttering to start with and distracted me for a while from the plot development, but once I learned to suspend my disbelief I simply appreciated the stunning settings for the filmscenes. The plot has more twists and turns than the Grand Canal, and I gave up trying to anticipate the next one, but the two lead characters were superb, plus the bonus of Rufus Sewell popping up here and there (the delicious irony of Zen coming home to the city of his birth as an Englishman), Paul Bettany's growing frustration virtually sizzling off the screen, and Timothy Dalton looking a little more grey and grizzled than Bond but a great authority figure, all topped off by the glorious setting of Venice, made for a very enjoyable evening. My problem now is that I shan't be able to watch the film again for itself, as I know the ending, and that will ruin the plot twists, although I suppose it will give me more opportunity to concentrate on the shots of Venice. Luckily there are plenty of extras on the DVD, including some that prominently feature Venice which I can watch time and again before booking my next trip. To summarise, great film, two leading actors at the top of their game, complex storyline to keep you guessing to the end (if only on the first viewing), and fabulous setting in Venice. What's not to like? Would this film have worked as well if it had not been shot in Venice? Probably not.
