Deadwood DVD Boxed Set Series One
1 of 2 found this helpful I bought this for my husband and me just before going to Spain for Christmas with a view to bringing it with us. Although we were looking forward to escaping all the rubbish British Christmas TV we weren't particularly looking forward to the Spanish version (we have a 6 year old who goes to bed fairly early, so nights out on the sangria weren't an option either).
We watched Deadwood every night except one. On the first night just one episode, but thereafter, as the pace picked up and the stories unravelled, two episodes back to back. It's an excellent series and very evocatively produced. I had loved Alias Smith and Jones, and the Virginian when I was a kid and have always been a fan of good Western Movies. The acting, scenery, props, music, direction are all superb and now that we're back in England I find myself wondering what's happening next in Deadwood Camp. A word of warning , though, as other reviewers have mentioned, about the language. My own can be a bit on the blue side at times, but I really think the script is a bit excessive on the swearing front and just occasionally it smacks of a more modern-set script; the Sopranos, in fact. I really wonder if the word cX*ksucker was used as often as this in the wild west .. It's my only real nit-pick about Deadwood though; I think it's fantastic otherwise and haven't enjoyed watching a series on dvd at my own leisure so much as when we re-watched Our Friends In The North in the same way. I got mine from a seller who deals in foreign import copies I believe, but it was an excellent price and plays perfectly with no subtitle issues.
