One of the best vDSL modems
1 of 1 found this helpful It's a good vDSL modem, one of the best ones you can get, despite the fact that they're a 10 year old design. Although it's it's technically capable of acting as a router, it's actually designed as a PPPoE modem, so you need a router as well to plug in to it.
As it comes, it's adequate, but to make it perform at its best, it needs the latest unlocked firmware flashed and a few settings tweaked. Once you have done that you can just leave it and forget about it.
The only issue with this particular product as supplied is the mains adapter supplied were both cheap junk (both of mine had coil whine). But I didn't buy it for the adapter, and any generic 12 volt, 1 amp one will do, so I used known good ones instead and they work fine with the HG612.
