Tamron 28-105 f/2.8: had one, it broke when dropped
a bit slow focusing compared to Canon lenses, and fragile. Canon lenses take a licking and (like Timex) keep on ticking. The only reason I would recommend this lens is that it covers a range in an f2.8 lens that Canon does not cover. I would pay 3 times as much to have a Canon L series lens in the same range...but it doesn't exist! Picture quality is pretty good, but if you don't need the fast lens and your pocket can stand it, go for the Canon 24-105 f4L IS lens instead.

good backup camera
easy to use, pretty good low light capability, optical viewfinder (missing on most current models) versatile controls allowing more exposure control (also missing on all but the most expensive compact digital cameras now)ISO 1600 capable, but pictures get a bit "noisy" above ISO 400

I’ve had one for years, and the quality far exceeds that of others we’ve tried, so I bought another for a second location.
