A great label printer - but consumables can prove to be expensive
This particular label printer can be used as a stand-alone device to print labels or it can be used with a computer (PC or Macintosh) - connected either by means of a serial (RS232) or USB port.
When used stand-alone, the device can be a little awkward to use - it is not immediately obvious laying out the text that you want to print out.
However, when connected to a computer, the software provided by Brother (which can be freely downloaded from their website) is an absolute joy to use. By far and away the best way to utilise this printers capabilities is to formulate labels on a computer and then print them out (whatever fonts are available on your computer can be put onto labels) - simple bitmap graphics and barcodes can also be printed onto labels.
A wide choice of size and label colours are available but label cassettes - particularly the genuine Brother ones - can be pricey !!
To sum up, this printer is great for business use and it can produce some truly excellent labels, especially when used with a computer - but consumables can be expensive and this is why I have only given this printer three stars for "Value for Money".

Bought to replace damaged crocodile clips on a car battery charger - work a real treat !!
These crocodile clips are of reasonably robust construction and have fulfilled a requirement that I had for them (repair of a car battery charger)

Provided a very easy and economical fix to a faulty vintage computer
I bought this product to carry out a repair to someone's Panasonic Toughbook computer, as the original card was preventing the machine from starting up.
The card was very cheap (being second hand probably helped !!) but was a direct drop-in replacement for the faulty card and normal operation was restored after fitting this replacement.
