Hitler Was an Amateur!

This book is a compilation of damning essays by European writers, many of whom considered themselves "fellow travelers", who used Soviet archives to document the activities of Communist regimes.
They found that the Soviet Union experienced widespread deaths from famine, numbered in the millions, before Hitler was ever elected Chancellor and before National Socialist death camps came into existence.
The writers look at each of the Communist regimes, documenting the purging of internal enemies (real or potential) when each regime came in power.
Almost nothing is taught of the real face of communism in our schools--it is just a political theory that just might work if ever given a chance. Few if any have attempted to wade through the writings of Karl Marx or any of the others of that persuasion. Everyone knows of the teachings at a distant remove and overlook the unpleasant aspects--the dictatorship is real and the consequences are devastating.
Communism cost the lives of almost 100 million people in the 20th Century, people who were citizens of the country that counted their lives for nothing. That is the documentation that this book brings to us, even if most want to ignore it and go for socialism-lite.

Attitudes Toward Slavery-Heads in the Sand Then and Now
The true publication date is 1957, Robt A Heinlein demonstrated here a prescient view of our world in true space opera fashion.
A young boy, the scion of unimaginable wealth, is a cast away out in the galaxy where raiders had killed his parents and he ended up a tatooed slave on a planet of despots.
A beggar buys and rescues the boy, and provides a father figure for him. The man is actually an undercover operative for the forces of good, and he makes arrangements for the boy in the event of anything happening to his savior. Eventually the something bad happens and when he is off the world his true identity is discovered and he returns to Earth, where his only remaining relatives, academics, deny the existence of slavery in the modern world.
Parallels today? We have slavery among us, well hidden for the most part, and deniers still that slavery remains a problem.
In any event, this was categorized as "juvenile fiction" in its day, and is a great read even today.
Heinlein was one of the masters, after all.
