A must-read for anyone interested in the great British holiday
If you've ever stayed at a Butlin's holiday resort, this book is a must-read. If you've never stayed at a Butlin's resort, or your only knowledge of the British holiday camp system comes from watching Hi-De-Hi!, this book will tell you everything you need to know. It's an attractively presented, lavishly illustrated, large-format book which lays bare the history of a British institution, from its origins to its glory years, the peaks and troughs which followed, to its modern-day reinvention for the 21st century. Packed with interesting nuggets and priceless photos, such as Laurel and Hardy judging a beauty contest at Butlin's back in 1948. I bought this book after reading Roger Lewis's rave review in the Daily Mail, and I wasn't disappointed!

Disappointing low budget television
Fair enough, you don't expect a top-notch television for just over a hundred pounds, but this is a poor television even by those standards. It's easy to use and easy to set up straight out of the box, but the plus points end there. The picture quality was terrible and the sound quality had an awful hollow tinny quality. Within twenty minutes it was back in the box and I'd gone back to my old Panasonic LCD set, which has its flaws but remains streets ahead of this set. May be okay for children to play games on or use as a computer monitor, awful for even casual television viewing.

Good cheap portable DVD player
It is what it is - a low budget, no frills portable DVD player that won't break the bank or take up too much room. Don't expect bells and whistles or pioneering features, this is designed to get the job done with the minimum of fuss. The remote control looks and feels somewhat flimsy but it works fine, the operation of the unit itself is decidedly 'hands on' and somewhat clunky but the picture and sound quality are surprisingly good considering the brand and the price range.
