Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series (1978) (DVD) Lorne Greene

Great Nostalgic TV with excellent bonus features
I have to admit to buying this because it recently started airing again on Freeview TV here in the UK, and I wanted to enjoy the various episodes without adverts. Battlestar Galactica (1978) is often cited as Universal's response to Star Wars, but is actually a very good show on its own grounds. All the episodes here are of excellent picture and sound quality. The three - part opener, "Saga of a Star World", is particularly worth watching as it varies considerably from the original theatrical film cut shown in Cinemas, including lots of footage I hadn't seen before. The episodes thereafter continue the search for Earth, and some stand out more than others, like "Lost Planet of the Gods" and "War of the Gods". The Bonus disc includes a lot of previously unseen features too, which I thought made the purchase well worth while. Definitely recommended, particularly if you want to see where the basic ideas for the later remake came from. 10/10.

2021 Guide to the Night Sky: Bestselling Month-by-Month Guide to Exploring the S

Excellent Yearly Night Sky Guide for Astronomical events visible from the UK
I bought this guide mainly because I had firstly bought the companion book "2021 Guide to the Night Sky - Southern Hemisphere" (e.g. stars visible only from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa etc.). I was so impressed with that book's content and layout that I was curious to see how the UK edition faired as well. I was not disappointed. It offers the reader a clear and concise guide to what is visible in the night sky each month, with easy to read text, brilliant illustrations and colour photos of the objects in question. The guide is a yearly publication, so is worth getting each Autumn when it comes out so you have it ready for the next year. It is a brilliant publication, highly recommended, suitable for the amateur and professional Astronomer alike. A simple, yet highly enjoyable / readable book. 10/10.
Battlestar Galactica 1980: The Complete Series (DVD) Lorne Greene

Surprisingly entertaining if you seek out the good episodes
Okay, Galactica 1980 isn't the ending that the original Battlestar Galactica series deserved by any means, and when I first watched this in the early 80's I myself wasn't a big fan of it. However, fast forward to 2021, and I found myself surprised when I watched it again for the first time in 40 years. Sure there isn't the majority of the original cast from the first season, but surprisingly some of the stories do stand out from this 10 - part sequel: "Galactica discovers Earth" is watchable, and worth another look. "The Night the Cylons Landed" is actually quite funny, as they (crash) land on Halloween, creating a lot of very silly but entertaining moments, like a Cylon being incapacitated by a simple Microwave being turned on! Finally, "The Return of Starbuck" is the episode most like those of the original series, and it reminds you what a mistake was made scrapping the original show, then trying to re-make it on the cheap after going back on the cancellation. I actually found my second viewing of this series quite entertaining, and if you can accept it for what is, you'll actually end up watching some classic early 80's Glen A Larson TV, which although not the best show here is quite enjoyable and more entertaining than some of the so-called "shows" being put on TV today.
