Worth reading, and re-reading
This is the sequel to "The Mote in God's Eye." Set some years after the discovery of the Moties, the Empire discovers that they are on the verge of breaking out of their system.
Brings much more depth to the Moties' civilizations which was not seen in TMiGE.

Of the Pern books, read this one last
McCaffrey's original Pern series ... which I read back in the 80s ... didn't give much background on how the Pernese got to the situation they found themselves in. This book fills in many of those gaps.
My opinion is: Read the original series first, read this one last. The original series was fast-moving adventure. This fills in details and plods in places. Not suitable as an introduction to a wonderful series.

A great design and inexpensive to boot
1 of 1 found this helpful This shield takes all the annoyance out of using stepper motors for CNC control.
It's inexpensive. I got mine for under $2 each. That's a bargain by any standard.
It takes the standard A4988 stepper drive modules (under a dollar each), and in case one blows up they are socketed and can be replaced in less than a minute.
There are provisions for limit switches, emergency switches, power decoupling and the power connector for the steppers is a decent size, not just a couple of pins.
The shield goes right on top of an Arduino Uno so there is no wiring involved in connecting the shield to the host Arduino.
All things considered I think that this shield is superior to the V4 version.
