I've become hooked on Bernard Cornwell's series on Richard Sharpe. It's just good adventure reading in an realistic, historical context..

Good low-key entertainment with characters and stories that draw viewers in.
2 of 2 found this helpful This series gives viewers a quaint picture of rural life in Yorkshire before and after World War II, how some things change and others never do. While the stories center on a veterinary practice and the struggles its professionals have to tend to the needs of "creatures great and small" in their region, ultimately the real stories are about the people, the veterinarians, their interactions, their families and relationships, and their dealings with their human clients. Good, solid, low-key entertainment that is a refreshing change from bullets and bombs, the world-in-crisis drama that seems to dominate cinematic entertainment these days. It's a story about the rest of us, who aren't going to save the world but are just trying to get through today and are hopeful for the rest of the week.
