I wouldn't use this on an expensive instrument, but it does the job for the price.
The chrome finish looks a bit cheap and plastic - but that's not unreasonable given that this was cheap.

Very user friendly
Good little item. Correct frequency for most TV etc remotes that we tried.
Legs are the correct pitch for a standard breadboard.
Easy Arduino support.
We used these into an electronics kit for kids - decoding and storing remote codes.
Much easier to use than photo resistors because of the native decoding of the carrier.

So handy for prototyping
I found this really handy as both a breadboard power supply and as a measurement tool.
