NEIL - YOUNG GENIUS?
This magnificent solo in-concert performance from 1971, may well be Neil Young's best ever album! In fact, most of this was going to be released as a live double album in 1971, as the follow-up to " After The Goldrush " - track listings were even finalised and announced to the press, but it was pulled at the last, because Neil was so knocked-out by some of the early " Harvest " mixes. Well, better late than never, and we finally get to hear the unofficial successor to " Goldrush " .The technical quality of the recording is really striking - the vocals are strong and dynamic with great presence; the acoustic guitar work is crisp and crystal clear; the piano tone is warm and sonorous - 6 songs are performed at the piano - which Neil plays beautifully. Neil's vocals are exceptionally good, and show what a great singer he is - the reviewer on the sleeve states that Young is a better singer than song-writer! Sonically, the recording is absolutely faithful to the original performance - no overdubs - and is the complete concert, including spoken word introductions, humourous remarks, and tumultuous applause! It is astonishing how a Neil Young solo concert can captivate an audience, solely by the power of his singing, compositions and musicianship. Listening to this remarkable CD is almost like having a front-row seat to this vintage show - such is the sound fidelity! This album has been getting nothing but rave reviews on the internet, and must rate as one of the key album releases of Neil Young's illustrious career. Musical magic from 1971!
