Since the item was not completely destroyed and could be repaired, I contacted the seller and requested that half the shipping cost be refunded. The seller refused and suggested I use the USPS claims process. It requires the item remain broken in case it must be presented at the post office for verification of the claim. No repairs can be attempted until claim complete.
