Work well on Mossy 590A1
Fits well, all pieces mesh together as they should. Once it’s installed on the stock with all sections fitting as close as possible, use a hair dryer to “drift” the seems together and it looks like one piece. 👍

The Adcom GFA-555 Power Amp
4 of 4 found this helpful Designed by amp god Nelson Pass, the Adcom GFA-555 power amplifier is an iconic, bomb proof amp, sounds fantastic with no excuses anywhere in the frequency band. I've owned one since the original release back in the 80s, and never had an issue with it. I bought a second one recently to serve as power amp for a passive sub (NHT 1259 driver (4ohm) / 3.2 cu ft enclosure) and it works perfectly in this application. More than enough current to motor the driver and keep it under control. Bass is tight, realistic and has authority. It never sounds sloppy.
Currently driving Magnepan 1.6 speakers with my original 555, this amp has no problem driving the 4ohm load, and sounds great doing it. It sounds sweet, has good presentation of instruments within the soundstage, and that soundstage has good depth and width on recordings that possess it.
I've owned a lot of gear over the years, including tube gear, and the Adcom can compete with all of it. Is it 100% perfect? Nope. Is it 90% of the way there at a fraction of the price of Mac, Krell, etc. Definitely!
Choose a used one wisely, get one that's been well taken care of and it'll serve you well. At this point the caps are reaching the end of their service life and likely will need to be replaced at a point, but no worries, parts are readily available and their stupid easy to work on - either by you if you're knowledgable or by your favorite service tech. Musical Concepts and Big Sky Audio also offer well respected upgrades for these amps to make them even better than new.
Enjoy!
