Simple, reliable phone w/ free incoming text
Reliable Motorola flip-phone for use with Tracfone. An older model, but still very reliable & useful. And in-coming text messages are free! Loud ringer, good alarm clock, good voice and reception quality. Tracfone is an excellent pay-as-you-go choice for people who talk less than about 250 minutes per month.

LG 300G NET10 - basic compact cell phone
The LG 300G is a very compact, basic cell phone for the casual user who mostly wants to talk and text. Because it is a NET10 phone, the airtime is always 10 cents/minute. Each text (in or out) costs 0.5 minutes. NET10 is an appropriate choice for someone who needs an average of 150-300 minutes of airtime each month. If you need less, TracFone is better. If you need more, Straight Talk is better. (Better = more cost effective.)
The small size of the phone makes it very easy to carry in pocket or purse. The sound and voice quality are both surprisingly good. The keypad is easy to use without making keying mistakes, but the arrow keys are sometimes easy to miss-key. The small size makes it awkward for the serious texter, but occasional texting is accomplished without too much trouble. Overall a fun little (VERY little) phone.
