Small, but mighty.

I got this for a friend with terminal cancer who could no longer read in bed. It allows her to play audiobooks. Hospice got a CD player from the library, but it was a boombox, way too big. This is small, light, really does a good job; only drawback is that it EATS batteries. Had to get earbuds, but that was no big deal. Found power cords; will have to see if that also works. The carrying case allows you to have more CDs on hand, so that was good too.

Solid, professional history.

Necah Furman, a professional historian, was hired to write a history of Sandia National Laboratories. It was envisaged as a multi-volume project, but after she finished the first volume, management... "decided to go in another direction." That is a rotten shame, because she did a brilliant job on this first book, a study of Sandia's first decade. Disclaimer: I worked with Necah in the same organization (but not on this project) and have tremendous admiration for her.

You can't go wrong with Robert Crais. This is the first of the Elvis Cole books, and I'm so glad to have found it on CD!
