Description of the natural landscape was very repetitious and the ending was a let down, not satisfying at all.
I bought this book based on the good reviews but for me it was a real let down. A quarter of the way into the book the description of the natural landscape became very repetitious without revealing any new details about the wildlife over time other than scientific details which was meant to represent the main character's increasing knowledge over time. Without an expanding/ever evolving description of the landscape and wildlife however, any connection between the main character and the natural world was lost for me. Also I found that the author grasped for the low hanging fruit in that the main character's involuntary immersion in this natural setting 'naturally' led to her artistic and scientific interests in the setting. The beautiful mystery of nature was abruptly and unromantically solved by her, sadly predictable, scientific pursuits and artistic abilities. The actual mystery of the novel was also predictably and abruptly solved at the very end leaving the reader very unsatisfied. I was surprised that I saw the book through to the end.
