One of My Favorite Re-Tellings
I really enjoyed this movie! The characters are rich, the scenery beautiful and the costumes authentic, all things that make up a great story. The story did drag around a bit, especially with Catherine's dreams/fantasies. Still, all in all it was definitely worth a watch, if for nothing else than to see the ever adorable JJ Feild as Mr. Tilney. (P.S. Mr. Tilney is the best!)

Worth a Gander
The plot is interesting and the mystery woven throughout the story is intriguing. I adore Billie Piper but felt that she was a bit stiff or her actions seemed forced. (Although, that could be chalked up to the personality of her character in the film.) Other than that, no complaints. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and the screenwriter and the director (as well as everyone behind the movie) navigate Philip Pullman's novel with relative ease and translate it onto the screen quite successfully. Matt Smith pre-Doctor is a genuine delight as the ever curious Jim Taylor. Add in a dash of the ever-charming (ever adorable) JJ Feild and his hilarious relationship with movie sister Hayley Atwell and you can't go wrong.
