Comfort and Joy
1 of 1 found this helpful This is my personal holiday 'classic', although like all Bill Forsyth films it flies under the radar of the vast majority of American movie watchers. Forsyth makes comedies which occupy a grey middle ground, never dark but usually moody, infused with a dry Scottish wit complemented by the climate and landscape of a raw, beautiful country.
To be honest, Christmas plays a modest supporting role in this story of an old-school morning-drive radio DJ, (Dicky Bird of the popular Early Worm Show), unexpectedly thrown into a midlife crisis. His sexy kleptomaniac girlfriend unceremoniously walks out on him after a romantic evening. His subsequent wandering eye accidentally draws him into a turf war between two rival ice cream concessioners, the established Mr. McCool and the insurgent Mr. Bunny. The sight of a Mr. Bunny van winding through bleak Glasgow suburbs in the dead of winter, its insipid jingle piping out of a tinny speaker, is a slice of absurd Forsythe humor in a nutshell.
It's impossible not to fall in love with characters in Forsythe movies. Nobody's a villain or hero, they're all too human. Starring roles are really just major players in a rock-solid ensemble cast. That seems to be Forsyth's genius - casting dozens of people to populate a story with unforgettably endearing characters, each of whom instantly assumes a very individual personality. Alan (Dicky), played by Bill Patterson, mediates the ice cream conflict to a happy ending and resolves his personal angst, but in the end he's still struggling to liven up his voice tracks for bland radio spots. (But does he get the girl?) The ice cream mafia are cartoons, but three-dimensional flesh and blood at the same time. Other bit parts flavor the storyline with an underlying theme of unforced human kindness without the residual Hallmark channel sticky-sweet aftertaste.
One more word to the uninitiated: this is not a fast-moving dose of holiday cheer to be squeezed in between shopping and cookie baking. Dedicate a quiet evening with a few drops of your favorite beverage (ideally a good scotch), and let the comfort and joy of the season sneak up on you.
Final note to Dire Straits fans: In case you weren't aware, Mark Knopfler did a fine job scoring the film.

Worked great for 8 months
Pretty easy install, everything matched up, not as robust as oem of course but seemed great for the money. Wrong. Motor quit out of the blue. Eight months later I’m at NAPA buying a whole new regulator so I can use my drivers window again. At least it got me through the cold winter. One year warranty, hoping they honor it.

T&C 119” wb headlights
Headlights mounted perfectly, easy to adjust but of course should be aimed professionally. Had to widen the hole for a harness tension restraint as another reviewer mentioned, but not critical. Mine included bulbs which was a bonus. Waiting to put to the test on a dark country road.
