Lively and fair account of a seemingly unattractive king.

Howerd's comedy and character is completely distinctive and worthy of this collection.

Frankie Howerd at his best was a master of stand-up without relying on gags but with his demeanor of a put-upon and vulnerable character. Up Pompeii as a great vehicle for his talent getting huge laughs from his part in the script but also his relationship with the audience. The complilation DVD shows him making the most of great scripts by, among others, Galton and Simpson. Some of the humour is inevitably dated, but, never malicious.
