just the ticket
1 of 1 found this helpful Needed a new nut for a custom build and decided to try the AxeMaster compensated brass nut as a means of improving sustain and perhaps see if it can improve chord intonation. And it does. To be honest I was a bit sceptical, but comparing it with a non-compensated nut showed there is something in in it. Also, it cost less than an Earvana nut; which was nice.

Works but...
I fitted this to a home-built bass that uses 2 Wilkinson bass humbuckers and an 18V (twin battery) supply. The sound is very tight, clean and usable, however, the treble, bass and mid controls don't seem to do much. I know it wasn't very much, but perhaps I was expecting a little too much in terms of tone variability. The loom is very well constructed of good-quality components and it worked first time. The instructions were easy to follow and I installed it with no problems. Whether I would recommend it depends on whether you just want that clean active sound or want more from the tone setup. As a preamp alone I think it is very good, but tone controls seem more or less superfluous.

Pretty good, arrived quickly
1st it arrived quickly. As a top hat it is slightly dimensionally smaller than the Penn one by a few millimetres one I have already, but that suits the unit I'm making. Would definitely buy another one if I need to.
