The best that can be bought in this price range - can be tuned to sound pretty decent
I have quite a few of these various compact subs. In this size and price range, this is the best it'll get, and most of the options in this price range are not reputable brands. This substantially outperforms the same size and weight no-name unit my wife had. i have a couple of the Kicker PT250s, which are larger, more expensive, and with a 10" sub instead of this Blaupunkt 8". If Kicker were to make an 8" version, it would sound comparable to this Blaupunkt unit. In a car, this will make the stereo sound "nice". It won't pound - not possible in this form factor. Don't use it outside - like in a boat. With no room to reinforce the sound, outdoor applications need more than double the wattage to sound good. But for my wife's jeep and my daughters jeep, they love this unit as their stereo (even with the top off) sounds quite nice at "starting to get loud" volumes. If you want the max amount of bass it can put out, turn up the gain and use minimal bass boost. Bass boost increases the lowest frequencies but they happen to be the frequencies that a shallow 8" speaker will struggle with the most. Turn that down and you'll get more overall bass - more bass guitar, less "hit" from the kick.

Worked just fine
The one from last year is holding up nicely and I'm buying another for the other side now.

Not great, but good for the low cost
I bought my high-end Blackstar amp partially for the built-in emulated output, which has proven to be great - sitting beautifully in the mix with little manipulation. When I A/B the Blackstar against my Trescab, no matter how much tuning I do on the Trescab, it never quite gets there. On clean, pretty stuff, the highs are damped. On mildly dirty overdrive, the mids are dull, where the Blackstar emulator just sparkles and jangles so nice. In application after application, the Trescab is just a bit lifeless. If you're on a tight budget, it's good enough that many people won't notice. I've put a lot of money into pedals and American Standard strat and having this pedal damp all the great stuff upstream is not quite good enough. Let's say it sounds 90% of the quality of the Blackstar emulation, enough to bother a discerning guitarist.
