A highly fascinating series that remains relevant though too painful for some to watch
1 of 1 found this helpful This series from the 1970s traces Alex Haley's (Author) roots from his ancestor Kunta Kinte being caught in Africa to being enslaved right up to Alex Haley's day. It was so amazing to see one man trace his ancestry back so far, despite all the obstacles.
The series was very well acted and contained some of the best well-known talent as well as, probably the most black actors in one series up to that time.
Not only did the series touch a familial nerve in people, enshrining the concept and positives of 'family', but it also chronicled the plight of black people in America and of the Civil Rights movement.
Would we, as a society, have been so enagaged with family history had this show not existed?

The 21st Century Sherlock Holmes Returned from the Dead
Excellent third series in which Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes returns after a fatal encounter with Moriarty. It is based in the 21st Century, has a lot of contemporary twists and this re-interpretation of Holmes may not suit purists but is certainly very entertaining.
All the favourites return including; Holmes (Benedict Cumberpatch), Dr watson (Martin Freeman), Mrs Hudson (Una Stubbs), Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves), and Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott).
The explanation of Sherlock's death is attempted in many ways but in the end we get a short 'real' explanation perhaps just to 'let the story unfold gradually'.
After another 3 stories with the usual characters unfolding as you've never seen them before, we have a great final scene which heralds the return of Jim Moriarty. I can't wait!

kojak series
Gritty police drama from the past but every bit as topical today. a great start for this excellent and exciting series.
