Beautifully illustrated, lovingly educational
Hawaii's flora world is complicated and beautiful. A Hawaiian Floriligium captures it so exquisitely. Mary Grierson's botanical portraits and Peter S. Green's narrative allows the reader to glimpse a small few of plants in the landscape, both endemic and introduced species. Grierson delivers a centuries-old tradition of exact and artfully specific botanical drawings presented by the National Tropical Botanical Gardens on Kauai, Hawaii. I'm happy to have this book in my collection. The Munroidendron racemosum on the cover caught my eye so that I had to take a cutting from the tree and draw it for myself - not such a simple feat, but completely engaging.

Such a silly little funny thing
My daughter sent me the Face Up Roller Massage tool that she'd seen an ad for showing a kitty getting her furry face rubbed. It was just so funny, she got me this little cute roller. The price was certainly right, the quality is good, the colors are pleasing, and the idea is the most appealing part. I rubbed my face and it does feel pleasant. I tried it on my cat, she didn't like it so much. But, for a fun gift for your ladies' club, or an inventive birthday gift, go ahead. It's creative and fun and will make you smile - and - perhaps make your face happy and slimmer too. Writing this review reminds me to get it and give it a chance - I might get to look like the pretty models in the ad! : - )

Wish I'd bought this a few years ago -- So happy I have it now.
When this book came out a few years ago, I passed it by at around $50 for the hardcover. But, also over the years, the Coco Palms Hotel story kept "pinching" me. I've enjoyed many of David Penhallow's books and knew the content of this one. I was happy, now, to find it at only double the price. I am happy to have this book in my Kauai-related library and it's a valuable addition, at any price. I stayed at Coco Palms in July/Aug '92, just days before Hurricane Iniki swept over the island. It was a unique experience that changed my life in many ways . . .
So, if you're wondering if you should fork over the money to get a copy of this book? If you love Coco Palms, Kauai history, movie stars, the Guslander story, and are in that genre of unique Kauai-visitors for all those Coco Palm years that continue, just do it. Coco Palms is now in the talented hands of architect Ron Agor who is finally bringing it into restoration. After all the years, Coco Palms might be resurrected. A blessing and a gift for Kauai and all the hundreds, thousands of Coco Palm guests.
