Strong Odor When Plugged In

The product appeared to be in perfect condition when I took it out of the box. When I plugged it in, however, it smelled like burning plastic. I bought this as a replacement for a controller that had stopped working after 2 years, so I am well aware of the fact that the smell is not normal. Given the nature of the product and strong concern that it may present a fire hazard, it will be going in the trash.
