The real deal when it comes to country music.

Brilliant recording. Great acoustic country music. Music with dynamics. Emmylou Harris is in wonderful form on lead vocals. She sounds like she is loving every minute of the show. So she should, with such incredible musicians in support. As pretty much has been the case throughout her career. I already have her earlier album with the Nash Ramblers at the Ryman, but boy this might be even better. Also, be sure to check out the respective musical careers of the members of the Nash Ramblers.

Ry Cooder is a fantastic musician, and as displayed here his brilliant interpretation of the work of others. Invariably in the company of the best players his subtle musical tones are second to none. He gets into a song, digs deeper than any other. What a catalogue of work there is avaible too.

Crowell’s wonderful enlightening tales are both vivid, and most unique.

So many takes to tell. Crowell’s knowledge of the other side of the tracks and growing up in less prosperous times can leave that person with a wealth of childhood (and more) memories. As is the case here. His connection with such times is uncanny. The book has him share superbly written tales set to the reader with a bunch of unforgettable treasures. Rodney Crowell is a masterful writer of both songs that have been covered by some of the best, and in retelling personal experiences. He learnt his lessons well
