Hendrix in a crossfire hurricane of beautiful funk
First Rays of The New Rising Sun. A beautiful and mature album. The sound quality is superb, as good as the three JHE albums – Mitch Mitchell is present on most of the tracks. Hendrix was progressing into sophisticated funk jazz and it's GREAT! Hendrix solos superbly throughout – often with imaginative multitracking techniques. With its sweet tender Hendrix vocal – this album is worth buying for ANGEL alone. Standout sci-fi slide guitar track ROOM FULL OF MIRRORS – but every track is a joy and the final solos in STEPPING STONE will have you smiling and nodding your head. Woooooooo what a ride!

Have mercy people and let Hendrix move you.
People, Hell and Angels. Another album of superior sonic quality with Cox and Miles on most tracks laying down a feel not unlike a funked up AXIS BOLD AS LOVE. The jazzy improvisation EASY BLUES has Hendrix (freed by Larry Lee's rhythm guitar) letting loose a flurry of furious vibrato runs. There are alternate takes of HEAR MY TRAIN A COMIN (with a great solo), IZABELLA (Mitchell on drums), BLEEDING HEART (ferocious playing throughout) – which as a guitar student of James Marshall I find riveting. The album ends with the jazzy and moody octaves of VILLANOVA JUNCTION BLUES which surely indicates where Hendrix was heading. The packaging is gorgeous and if you can find the deluxe 'book' version go for that for the superior experience – see what I did there?

Hendrix at his rawest.
We have all seen the footage of Jimi burning his guitar at Monterey on television – but that didn't prepare me for the LOUD volume of this CD and the total sonic brutality of his incredible guitar playing at its rawest. A rollercoaster blitz and Hendrix at his funniest with song introductions.
